Home Alone 4 Taking Back The House 2002
Smart Boy Stops Two Thieves With Unexpected Traps
A smart boy finds himself protecting a young prince from two dangerous thieves. Using quick thinking and a series of unexpected traps, he turns an ordinary house into the last place the bad guys want to be.
Wow, I think I'm going to like it here. Oh my gosh, this is such cool stuff. This is going to be the best Christmas ever. Days before Christmas, a woman named Kate quickly prepares to leave the house for a meeting with a client. She tells her oldest son, Buzz, to babysit his younger brother, Kevin.
While she's gone, Buzz looks annoyed because he wants to go to the movies with his friends, and he asks why his mom cannot tell his sister, Megan, to stay with Kevin. Kate says Megan has dance rehearsals at the teen center and that Buzz needs to stay with Kevin. Buzz still isn't happy about this. And as he walks away, Kate goes to Kevin's room to check up on him.
Why can't you just get back together? When she gets there, she sees Kevin watching a video from the family's Christmas celebration last year. Kate looks amazed and sits next to Kevin, who says he's sure this year's Christmas won't be fun. Kate says it will, and that they'll still do everything they used to do on Christmas.
Kevin insists that things will be different because his dad, Peter, won't be spending Christmas with the family. Kate admits that Christmas won't be the same without Peter, and Kevin asks why they can't just get back together. Kate implies that she and Peter got separated because things weren't working out between them anymore, and Kevin looks sad. Be with family and friends.
After Kate leaves the room, Buzz and Megan call Kevin to come downstairs and check something out. Interestingly, it turns out that they only wanted to mess with him. And as they knock him to the ground, Kate tells them to stop. Buzz then asks again if he can go to the movies, but Kate insists that he has to babysit Kevin.
Kevin says he really doesn't mind staying home alone and that Kate can let Buzz go. Kate says she's not leaving Kevin home alone, and Buzz seems pissed. He then says that he'll make Kevin miserable. Me, dad, because that's exactly how he feels about not going to the movies. Almost immediately, Peter arrives at the house and the kids head over to meet him.
Kate looks shocked because she didn't know he was coming, but Peter says he just wanted to surprise the kids. Kevin then asks why Peter is around, and Peter says he came to speak to Kate privately. After the kids head to their rooms, Kate asks what Peter wants, and he jokes that she didn't even ask about his well-being. Kate says she just wants to know what he wants because she's about to leave for a business appointment.
Following this, Peter tells Kate that he plans to marry his girlfriend, Natalie, after their divorce is settled. You're getting married again. Kate looks shocked and says she didn't think Peter would want to get married again so soon. Peter says things moved really fast and that he would love to have the kids spend a little time with him over the holidays.
Kate cannot believe that Peter really wants to take the kids for Christmas, but he says it's only for a couple of days. He adds that he wants the kids to get to know Natalie better before she becomes their stepmom. Kate doesn't seem happy about this, but she tells Peter to ask the kids by himself. Peter then calls the kids and tells them about his plans to have them over at Natalie's place for Christmas.
It just wouldn't be right leaving the family at Christmas. He adds that Natalie is hosting a royal family at her house and that the kids might get a chance to meet a crown prince who is about Kevin's age. Buzz and Megan don't seem interested, and Peter asks what Kevin wants. Kevin says he's going to pass because he doesn't want to spend Christmas away from his mom and siblings.
Kate looks relieved, but Peter seems disappointed and tells Kevin that he can come over anytime he wants. Shortly after, Kate leaves for work and Buzz bullies Kevin and makes him do all the house chores. Clean it. She's fake. Kevin isn't happy about this, and when Kate returns home, he complains about how much he hates Buzz and never wants to be stuck home alone with him again.
Kate thinks Kevin is slightly overreacting, but he still insists that he's tired of being everyone's favorite joke because he's the youngest child. He adds that he wishes he didn't have a brother and a sister, but Kate says she's sure he doesn't mean it. Kevin says he does and that he wishes he were an only child. Kate says she understands how Kevin feels and that he should go to his room to think about what he has rather than what he doesn't have.
Following this, Kevin heads to his room and continues lamenting about the way his siblings bully him. He adds that life would be so perfect without his siblings. Thank you for telling everyone that. Just as he says he'd run away if he had a place to go, he remembers his dad's open invitation and decides to go to Natalie's house.
Elsewhere, Natalie and Peter return home from a party and are unaware that the house is being watched by a criminal named Marv and his wife Vera. After Marv admires the house for a while, Vera asks if he wants to rob it. Marv says he's done with being a thief because he now wants to venture into kidnapping. He adds that a prince is coming to Natalie's house for Christmas and that he plans to kidnap the young boy and get a huge amount of money as ransom.
Meanwhile, Kevin packs a few things and leaves home without telling his mom. After a while, a cab drops him off at Natalie's house, and he looks excited to be there. Molly, would you come here, please? As he [snorts] rings the doorbell, the butler, Prescott, wakes up from his nap and goes to see who is there.
When he opens the door, Kevin looks scared because he thinks Prescott is weird. After telling Prescott that he's there to see his dad, Kevin is allowed to come in. Peter looks pleased to see his son and Natalie says it's nice to meet him. Kevin says he's sorry for showing up unannounced and that he hopes Natalie doesn't mind.
Natalie says she doesn't and she calls her maid Molly to prepare the special guest room for Kevin. She also tells Prescott to give Kevin a house key. Interestingly, the key happens to be a special gadget with different buttons. It's a key to the whole house. And Kevin looks confused.
Natalie then explains that she lives in a smart house and that the key can do whatever Kevin tells it to do. She shows him how the key works by getting it to do certain things, and Kevin looks impressed. He eventually sees his room and looks excited because it's big and filled with toys and other amazing devices. Elsewhere, Kate goes to Kevin's room and notices that he's gone.
As she looks confused, she gets a call from Peter, who thanks her for allowing Kevin to spend Christmas with him. Kate then realizes that Kevin is with Peter and she says it's fine. That's because you're the best publicist in the world. The next morning, Molly wakes Kevin and serves him a special breakfast.
After he's done with his meal, he heads down to meet Natalie and Peter. As Natalie sees Kevin looking at the presents near the Christmas tree, she tells him to open one. Following this, he opens a big present, which turns out to be a remotec controlled plane. He looks excited to see it and Natalie says he can only play with it outside.
Shortly after, Natalie and Peter prepare to leave the house for an event and Kevin looks sad because he thought they'd get to spend more time together. What? I'm not saying it's a bad thing. Peter says they'll be back soon, and Natalie tells Kevin to ask Prescott for anything he wants.
After they leave, Kevin asks Prescott for a milkshake, and the butler reluctantly heads to the kitchen to make it for him. Kevin then sees a dumb waiter and asks Prescott what it is. Prescott explains what it does. But as Kevin asks more questions, the butler gets frustrated. Kevin thinks Prescott is too strict.
And as he walks around, he sees a room with a no entry sign on it. Despite this, Kevin goes inside and sees live footage from all the cameras in the house. No entry. Just then, Prescott comes in looking pissed because Kevin is in the security room. He says he doesn't care if Natalie allows Kevin to play around the house, but that Kevin has to stay away from the security room.
Kevin finds this weird and heads out to meet Molly, who is much nicer. Shortly after, Molly heads to the market and leaves Kevin alone with Prescott. Interestingly, Marv and Vera are still around, and after seeing Molly leave the house, they decide to break in to get a lay of the land, so it will be easier to kidnap the prince when he arrives. My robbery days are over.
Following this, Marv and Vera head into the premises and Kevin spots them from the window. He recognizes Marv as a criminal who has broken into his house before and he immediately calls Prescott through the intercom, but the butler doesn't respond. Surprisingly, Marv has a house key with him and he uses it to disable the alarm system and open the door. Vera seems impressed and as they walk into the house, Kevin realizes that they have a key.
He then sets them up to enter his room. And as they fall for this, they suspect that there's someone around. Anybody in here? Well, not. Before they can find Kevin, he opens the bathroom door and turns on all the taps to blast them with water. This causes them to fall, but the house also gets flooded as they try to leave.
Almost immediately, Marv spots Kevin and looks shocked to see his old nemesis. Vera then suggests leaving before anyone catches them, and Marv tells Kevin that he'll be back. Shortly after, Natalie and Peter return from the event and look shocked to see the house flooded. Kevin tries to explain that there were burglars in the house.
It wasn't me, it was the burglars. And Natalie quickly calls Prescott, who responds and says he doesn't know what Kevin is talking about. He also blames Kevin for what happened, and Peter scolds his son. After Natalie calms down, she meets Peter and Kevin and says she understands that Kevin is just acting out because he wants extra attention.
Kevin insists that there were intruders at the house, but Peter just gets him to apologize to Natalie. Elsewhere, Vera asks Marv about Kevin, and Marv complains about how Kevin is always everywhere he breaks into. everywhere I break into. Vera says Kevin is just a kid, but Marv says he still has scars from some of the things Kevin did to him. He then mentions that Kevin won't be able to mess up his plan this time because he has an inside man.
Back at the house, Kevin sneaks into the security room to review the footage and gather evidence that the burglars were there. Unfortunately, he discovers that the footage has been erased and he assumes that Prescott is working with Marv and Vera. Almost immediately, Prescott finds Kevin inside the room and scolds him as Prescott threatens to punish Kevin if he comes in again. You don't go to other people's homes.
Molly shows up to take him away. On the way to his room, Kevin tells Molly that he thinks Prescott is working with the burglars. He explains why he thinks so, and Molly says he might be right because Prescott doesn't like working at the house. That night, Peter tells Natalie that he'd like to decorate the Christmas tree with Kevin to make him feel more at home.
Natalie supports this and Peter goes to meet Kevin in his room. He says they can start all over again and that he wants Kevin to behave well because Natalie is a really nice lady. What do you say we just forget about today and start over? Huh? After this, they decorate the tree together, but Natalie eventually gets a call from a client. as she says they need to head out, Peter says he'll stay with Kevin instead.
Natalie doesn't have a problem with this. And after she leaves, Kevin asks if she's the reason Peter left home. Peter then clarifies that he didn't leave Kate to be with Natalie and that it just happened. He also mentions that adult relationships are sometimes complicated. The next day, Peter and Kevin notice that the Christmas tree is different, and Natalie says she forgot she had hired professional tree decorators who came over this morning.
Kevin looks disappointed, but Peter cheers him up by telling him to open a present, which turns out to be a super spy bugging and listening device. Elsewhere, Kate starts missing Kevin, and she packs a few things to take to him. Buzz and Megan agree to come with her, and when they get to the house, Kevin looks happy to see them. Kevin asks if they'll be staying, but Kate says they only brought a few things for him as Kevin then shows his siblings some of the toys Natalie got him.
I wasn't even sure he could even sleep without it. Kate tells Peter that she didn't know Kevin could cope without his stuffed toy. Natalie believes it's just a toy that can be replaced, but Kate and Peter talk about how Kevin used to be so attached to it. Natalie seems jealous when she sees them laughing, and as Kate senses this, she suggests leaving with Buzz and Megan.
That night, Natalie and Peter leave the house to pick up the royal family at the airport. Shortly after, Kevin sees Prescott opening the door for Marv and Vera, who are disguised as caterers. He immediately tries to call them out as burglars, but Prescott takes him away and tells him not to mess up the dinner party Natalie has planned for the royal family. Kevin believes open book bar, open book bar shelf.
Prescott is working with the thieves, and he lures the butler into a walk-in freezer and locks him there. As he then looks around for Marv and Vera, he hears them talking about their plan to kidnap the prince and put him in a bag which they'll throw down a window after attaching a hook to the door. Marv tells Vera to get into the bag to see if his plan will work. And as she agrees, Kevin releases the hook to make them fall out the window.
He then accuses them of trying to kidnap the prince, and Marv seems pissed. Elsewhere, Natalie gets a call informing her that the royal family's flight was cancelled due to the weather. As she looks sad because she thought the night would be special, Peter tries to cheer her up. Just then, Natalie suggests announcing their engagement when they return home so that the night will still be special.
Peter says he thought they wanted to wait until his divorce is finalized, but Natalie insists that she wants the announcement tonight. When they return home, they call their guests attention to make the announcement. Peter and I are engaged. Meanwhile, Marv and Vera head back inside the house, but Kevin continues messing with them.
As they grow frustrated and chase Kevin, he runs away and interrupts Natalie's announcement. He also scatters the table and knocks down an ice sculpture, which turns out to be Prescott. Everyone looks shocked to see this, and Peter scolds Kevin again. Kevin tries to explain that the intruders came back, but Peter doesn't believe him.
He also tells Kevin to go to his room and think about what he has done. When Kevin gets to his room, he calls his mom, who cries as she watches an old Christmas movie. Shortly after, Natalie comes over to warn Kevin not to try to break up her relationship with Peter because she knows he has been trying to do that. Kevin looks shocked and realizes that Natalie has been pretending to like him to please his dad.
Much later, Kevin believes Marv and Vera will be back, so he sets booby traps around the house to catch them and make his dad believe him. I'll have that window fixed first thing in the morning. The next morning, Peter and Natalie leave the house to pick up the royal family from the airport. Kevin isn't happy about this because it's Christmas and he thought they'd spend the morning opening presents.
Shortly after, Marv and Vera arrive at the house and as Kevin spots them, he finds Prescott and lures him into the basement to lock him there. He then sees Molly and tells her what he did to Prescott. Before he says anything else, Molly says he made a mistake because she's the one working with Marv and Vera. Almost immediately, Marv walks in and calls Molly his mom.
Molly then locks Kevin in the basement with Prescott, who asks why Kevin thought he was the inside man. Kevin says Prescott was acting weird and that he also deleted the footage. Prescott says he didn't and that he sometimes turns off the cameras when Natalie is away because it's the only time he gets to sleep. He implies that Natalie is a bad boss and Kevin asks why he can't just quit.
Prescott says jobs aren't easy to find, but Kevin still encourages him to quit if he doesn't like his job. Mom, he's your son. After this, Kevin uses Prescott's phone to call Kate, but the line suddenly breaks and the phone also goes off. Kate looks confused and calls Natalie's house landline.
As Molly answers it, Kate says she wants to speak to Kevin, but she's told that her son went out with Natalie and Peter. Kate then calls Peter to ask about Kevin because she was just told they're together. Peter says they aren't and that Kevin is at home. Kate doesn't understand this.
And after the call ends, Peter tells Natalie that he thinks something is wrong. Natalie says she's sure Kevin is just making something up to get Peter's attention and that it's probably nothing to worry about. Peter doesn't like this. And when they get to the airport, he abandons her and says he's going back to check up on his son.
Kate also leaves her house with Buzz and Megan to check on Kevin at Natalie's. You know how much I care about kids. Back there, Prescott remembers that there's a dumb waiter in the basement. And after Kevin enters it, he heads up to set off his booby traps. Molly eventually gets trapped in an elevator, but she still tells Marv and Vera to go after Kevin.
Prescott soon gets restless, staying in the basement, and he decides to find his way up through the dumb waiter. Meanwhile, Kevin handles Vera and Marv on his own, and after they fall for his traps, they pass out. As Kevin looks pleased, Marley finds her way out of the elevator and tries to hurt him. Prescott suddenly shows up and knocks her out.
Kevin thanks Prescott for this and they decide to call the police. Shortly after, Peter and Kate arrive at the house at the same time. Interestingly, Marv and Vera are now awake and as they try to escape, Kevin tells Buzz and Megan to stop them. This works out just as planned and Peter says sorry for not believing Kevin.
Shortly after, Natalie returns home with the royal family and sees the cops arresting Molly, Marv, and Vera. Come on, Vera. As she looks confused, one of the cops says Molly wanted to kidnap the prince, but that Kevin saved the day. Natalie cannot believe this, but Prescott also takes Kevin's advice and quits his job.
Natalie looks sad and tells Peter to do something, but he says he loves his family and would like to move back home. Kate seems pleased because she wants him back, and the kids look happy. Suddenly, the prince's mom asks how she can repay Kevin for saving her son, and Kevin asks if they would like to spend Christmas with his family. The prince likes this idea and Natalie looks disappointed because she'll be alone for Christmas.
Almost immediately, snow starts falling and Kevin and his family look happy as they prepare to head home. After Kevin gets tired of frequently being bullied by his siblings, he moves to his future stepmom's house to spend Christmas with her and his dad. Even though things go well at first, Kevin soon realizes that some criminals are planning to kidnap a prince who was coming to the house in a few days. Everyone thinks he's just making things up.
