SPOILER ALERTThe full story below, including the ending.

Looks like some highly illegal aftermarket surveillance gear to go to MIT next year. No, no, no, no, no. If I drop them, I'd have to mortgage my house. Just a day before prom, a high school senior named Monica looks excited and sets up an online poll for people to vote on the hairstyle that best fits her.

She also happens to be in a tight race for prom queen against another senior named Ashley. But she seems relaxed because she has secured the lead with a fair margin. Before she goes to bed, she uses a couple of hair products to make her hair look good for prom. The next morning, Monica gets a call from her best friend, Sierra, who looks excited because it's prom.

Monica still feels sleepy, but Sierra encourages her to wake up. Just then, Monica gets up to talk to her friend via video call. Gosh, I didn't know that. As Sierra sees Monica's hair, she looks shocked and wonders what happened. Monica also realizes that her hair is now looking terrible and crispy.

She says it looked normal before going to bed, and Sierra asks if she did anything to it. Monica then checks the hair products she used the previous night, and she realizes that she wasn't supposed to use them together. Almost immediately, Monica spots her prom dress and notices that it's now melted. Sierra looks confused, but Monica also discovers that her shoes are broken.

I just broke it. I just broke off a piece of my hair. Monica looks disappointed because everything seems to be going wrong for her on her prom day. Sierra feels sorry for Monica and says she's sure Monica's hair, shoes, and dress can be repaired because they're material things. Monica agrees and says she'll just do a little research first.

As she turns on her computer, she checks the prom queen election tracking software she made and notices that she's now tied with Ashley. She looks shocked and explains what's happening to Sierra, who says Ashley cannot win because evil will triumph. I barely have enough to cover my salon appointment. And the school will be plunged into eternal darkness.

As Monica laments that her day cannot get worse, she gets a call from a DMV official who wants to schedule her driver's test. Monica looks pleased, but the woman says the next available test date is next year. Monica cannot believe this and she says she needs to get her license early enough because she's going to college next year. She also asks if there are no earlier dates.

The DMV official says there's a free slot by 2:00 p.m. today. And even though this doesn't sound great to Monica, don't worry, we'll we'll work something out. She agrees to show up later for her appointment. After this, Monica calls her boyfriend Kyle and tries to convince him to drive her to a few shops to get her hair, dress, and shoes fixed.

Kyle says he can't do it because he's volunteering at an orphanage today. Monica seems disappointed, but Kyle just tells her to take a taxi. Shortly after, Monica heads down for breakfast and sees her dad in the kitchen. He jokes that he's already a tech nerd like Monica because he can now post pictures on social media.

Before Monica can say anything, her dad sees her hair and looks shocked. You can't call in sick. You're a nurse. Monica says it wasn't intentional and that she cannot believe everything she planned for prom is ruined. Her dad offers to skip work to help her sort things out, but she says she can handle it on her own.

She adds that her dad is a nurse and he'll probably be needed at work. Before Monica's dad leaves for work, he reminds her that she has to decide on her preferred college this week. He says he understands why Monica is leaning toward going to the state college, but that she needs to consider her other option, which is a life-changing opportunity at MIT. Monica says she doesn't want to talk about it right now, and her dad tells her to call him whenever she's ready.

The one part of my outfit that isn't ruined. After this, she heads to her room and sees the necklace she recently bought for prom. As she puts it on, she gets a call from Sierra, who asks if there's a way she can help her friend. Monica says she'll figure something out herself. And Sierra suddenly spots the necklace.

Monica says she recently bought it for prom. And Sierra asks if she got people to vote on it. Monica says she didn't set up a poll for the necklace because she just likes it. And before Sierra says anything else, someone rings the doorbell. Let's not squabble over little details. Okay.

Monica immediately heads down to check who's there. And it turns out to be a lady named Liz, who introduces herself as an FBI agent. Monica looks surprised, but Liz says she just has a few questions about a necklace. She then shows Monica a picture of the necklace and asks if she has seen it before.

Monica looks shocked because it's the same one she bought at a nearby pawn shop, but she tells Liz that she has never seen it before. Liz suspects that Monica is lying. But before she can do anything, Monica figures out that she's not a real FBI agent. When was the last time you saw it?

What makes you think I've seen it? Liz then confesses that she's just a private investigator who wants to retrieve the necklace. Monica asks if it's worth a lot of money, but Liz says it's just a costume necklace that has sentimental value. Monica still denies knowing where the necklace is, but Liz tells her to stop lying.

She says she already went to the pawn shop where Monica got the necklace and that the owner gave up Monica's identity. Monica looks shocked when she hears this, but she still assumes that Liz is a bad private investigator. That extra inch you've got on me is really intimidating. Liz then mentions that from the little time she has spent in the house, she can tell that Monica lives alone with her dad because her mom ran off when Monica was a kid.

She says it's easy to figure it out because of how the house is designed. She also sees a picture of Kyle and says that Monica has a soulless boyfriend. Monica says her boyfriend isn't soulless and that he helps orphans. Liz doesn't care much about this and she just asks about the necklace.

Monica then tells Liz to wait in the kitchen while she heads to her room. How long have I been in your house? When she returns, she says she'll give up the necklace if Liz gives her a ride. Liz looks confused, but Monica explains that she needs to fix her hair, shoes, and dress for prom.

She adds that she's scheduled to take her driver's test today, and Liz will have to drive her to the DMV later. Liz seems annoyed, but since she really wants the necklace, she agrees. Following this, they leave the house in Liz's car, which she calls Brando. Elsewhere, a British jewel thief named Pierce also happens to be looking for the necklace, and he goes to the pawn shop.

That's a highfrequency radar jammer, right? Where it was last seen to ask the seller a few questions. Meanwhile, Monica notices that her phone isn't working inside Liz's car, and Liz says it's because Brando has magnetic shielding. Monica looks surprised and says she cannot just go offline on prom day.

Liz doesn't get why she's so obsessed with being online because it's just an easy way for people to track her. Monica says she wants people to know where she is and that there's even an app for that. Suddenly, Monica spots some of her classmates inside a nearby car and dispose of it properly. And she says she cannot let them see her inside Liz's freak car.

Liz seems offended and ensures that the boys see Monica inside her car. As one of the boys litters the road, Liz chases him down and makes him go back to pick up what he dropped. Shortly after, Monica and Liz arrive at the mall, and Monica laments that Liz must have cost her some votes by being harsh on the boys. Liz asks what Monica needs votes for, and she says she's contesting for prom queen.

Just then, they spot Sierra at the mall. I somehow doubt it's Liz McRodersburg, and Monica says she's trying to get ready for prom. Sierra then asks if Monica has heard that some of their mutual friends got accepted at the state college. Monica says she had no idea, but Sierra seems excited and encourages Monica to accept the state college's offer so they'll all be together.

Monica just brushes off the subject and walks away with Liz, who asks what the girls were talking about. Monica says she's considering going to the state college because that's where all her friends are headed, but that she has another offer. Nothing good ever comes out of it when someone touches the red button. Liz asks which college it is, and Monica says it's MIT.

Liz looks shocked and says she cannot believe Monica is really considering another school when she has an offer from MIT. Monica says she doesn't know anyone going to MIT and that she prefers staying with her friends. After they enter a hair salon, the receptionist says Monica is late for her appointment and that she'll have to come back later. Monica looks pissed, but she leaves with Liz to check out the store where she got her dress.

That's my Hilda. She's color blind. Elsewhere, Pierce finds Monica's address and breaks into the house to find the necklace. Meanwhile, at the designer store, Monica tries on some glasses and takes a few pictures for her poll. Liz doesn't understand this, but Monica tells her about the poll and how it's a way for people to weigh in on her options.

Liz asks why she can't just be herself, and Monica says she cares about first impressions. Just then, Monica shows her damaged dress to a store attendant who looks shocked to see it. Is this a bed pan? Pretty dope, huh? Liz also asks what Monica did to it, and Monica says she just steamed it.

Liz doesn't believe this, and she jokingly says that Monica vaporized it. The store attendant agrees and says she can't accept the dress back because Monica damaged it herself. Monica doesn't look happy about this, and she seems pissed at Liz for not supporting her. They eventually stop to get some corn dogs, and Liz spots Kyle with someone else.

She immediately tells Monica about it and Monica realizes that Kyle is hanging out with Ashley. Monica looks sad because Kyle is on a date with her direct rival for prom queen, but Ashley doesn't seem to care. How could you with her? She also insults Monica, who quickly runs to the bathroom.

When Liz gets there, she notices that Monica is crying because of what Kyle did. Sierra eventually comes in to console her friend, who says she cannot believe Kyle humiliated her. Liz feels sorry for Monica and heads out to humiliate Kyle while pretending to be a mall security guard. Unfortunately, a real mall guard catches her in the act and hands her over to the cops.

Stand up. Walk in a straight line. Interestingly, it turns out that Liz is an ex- cop. And when she gets to the police department, her former partner Ed says he'll try to get her charges dropped. Shortly after, he gets the charges dropped, but the police chief still scolds Liz for impersonating Maul security.

Monica feels the chief is being too harsh, but Ed says Liz and the chief have a special relationship. She adds that the chief has just always expected so much from Liz because she used to be the department's rising star. Monica asks why Liz quit, but Ed says she didn't. Monica looks confused, but Ed says it's better for Liz to tell her what happened.

Well, there's only one way to find out. After a while, Liz and Monica leave the police department, and Monica asks Liz why she stopped being a cop, even though she initially seems reluctant to talk. She says that the center stone in the necklace is a 21 karat diamond worth roughly $7 million. Monica looks shocked, but Liz says the necklace was stolen 2 months ago, and it was her fault.

She then explains how she was on guard duty when Pierce stole the necklace at a museum. She says she went after him on her own instead of calling for backup and this helped Pierce escape. She says the case affected her job and that she eventually had to drop her badge after frequent complaints from the chief. Eventually, the chief had had enough.

And Monica doesn't understand how she got the necklace if it was stolen. But Liz explains that Pierce misplaced it while trying to sell it. After that, the necklace ended up with different people who had no idea what it was worth. It eventually landed at the pawn shop when someone traded it in, and that's how Monica was able to get it there.

Monica asks why Liz didn't just tell her the truth, and Liz says she thought Monica would run away and sell the diamond if she knew its worth. Monica asks why Liz didn't send the cops to her house, and Liz says she wants to be the one to take the necklace back to the police department so she can redeem herself. Monica then talks about how the necklace was the only thing she didn't set up a poll for. Liz asks why it's so difficult for Monica to make a decision herself, and Monica says she's scared of making a wrong choice.

Liz then tells her that making mistakes is the only way she'll learn to do the right thing. Almost immediately, Monica remembers her driving test and tells Liz to take her there. Elsewhere, Pice doesn't find the necklace in the house, and he suspects that Monica might have it with her. Just then, he finds her tablet and sees a reminder about her driver's test.

He's just a low life who's going to jail for a long. With this, he realizes that she'll probably be at the DMV office, and he leaves the house immediately. Meanwhile, Monica arrives for her driving test on time, and the DMV official asks if she'll be using Liz's car. Liz says she cannot let Monica use Brando because she's the only one who drives it, but Monica convinces her to change her mind.

During the test, things go well at first until Liz spots Pierce chasing them. She tells Monica to drive fast and the DMV official looks terrified. Monica breaks a few traffic rules while driving very fast and Liz eventually gets her to use the nitro boost in the car. This works out quite well in losing Pierce, but the DMV official fails Monica and gets Liz's car towed.

Monica seems pissed and blames Liz for ruining her day because of a necklace. Liz just asks for the necklace, but Monica realizes that it's in her purse, which she left in Liz's car before it was towed. Liz suggests going to get it, but Monica says she's going home. Uber in the UK cab and whatever.

Elsewhere, Monica's dad sends a message to her tablet, and Pice sees this. Shortly after, while Monica is waiting for a cab to take her home, she gets a recorded video message from Pierce, who tells her to bring the necklace to a nearby warehouse. He also shows Monica that he has abducted her dad, and this scares her. She then goes back to find Liz and ask for her help.

Following this, they head to the impound lot to get Brando released, but the desk officer says they'll have to wait in line. Monica and Liz don't like this because they're in a hurry, and they work together to distract the desk officer and get Brando cleared for release. After they get the car, Monica finds her purse, but notices that the necklace isn't there. She looks shocked and figures out that Sierra might have accidentally taken it when they were in the mall bathroom earlier.

Following this, Monica tracks Sierra down and retrieves the necklace. Instead of calling the cops for help, Liz suggests taking the necklace to the warehouse. Is way more interesting than perfect will ever be. When they get close to the warehouse, Monica asks why Liz doesn't want to call the cops for help.

Liz says she wants to be the one to hand over the necklace and arrest Pierce. because she'd like to see the look on the chief's face. Monica asks why Liz cannot get herself transferred if she hates the chief so much, and Liz says it's because the chief is her mom. She adds that her mom is always pointing out her mistakes and trying to push her to be her best. Monica says it's quite refreshing because her dad only tells her that she's perfect, but sometimes she thinks about having a mom who would tell her the truth.

Liz feels sorry for Monica and says that if she were Monica's mom, she would say that the person Monica is today is way more interesting than a perfect person will ever be. She adds that Monica is a great kid who shouldn't let people decide for her because those who care about her won't mind if she isn't perfect. After this, they enter the warehouse and find Pierce, who asks for the necklace. Monica then gives it to him and asks for her dad.

Hello, ladies. However, Pierce says he'll only tell her where her dad is after he leaves safely. Before he can leave, though, Monica and Liz joke about how he's not a smart thief. As he looks confused, Monica uses her phone to track her dad's location. She then figures out that he's in the warehouse, and she goes to save him.

Pierce says he still won't let them get him, but Monica tells him that Liz called for backup this time. Pierce doesn't care about this, and as he tries to escape, Liz shoots him with a taser. After this, Pierce gets arrested, and Liz takes the necklace back to her mom, who seems impressed and gives her back her badge. Monica's dad also thanks Monica for saving him.

Monica then says she can't go to MIT because she doesn't think her dad will cope with her being far from home. Her dad looks surprised and tells her not to let that factor into her decision because he wants the best for her. Suddenly, Liz tells Monica that she'll be late for prom. Monica says she's not going anymore because she doesn't have a dress.

But Liz tells her not to worry because the police department has some nice clothes which they got from some criminals. After Monica picks a dress, Liz gives her the necklace and tells her not to worry because she'll get a full police escort to prom. It even works with a hat. I know, right?

Monica looks excited and heads to prom with Liz and some other cops. When they get there, Monica is crowned the prom queen. And during her speech, she thanks Liz for teaching her that being perfect is overrated. She also mentions that she'll be going to MIT next year, and everyone looks happy for her.

Following this, Monica dances with her dad and classmates as they enjoy the rest of the evening. After Monica's plans for prom get ruined, she meets up with an ex- cop named Liz, who wants the necklace she bought from a local pawn shop. Monica agrees to give it up only if Liz helps her get ready for prom. and the cop accepts the offer. Interestingly, a jewel thief is also trying to get the necklace, but Liz protects Monica and gets the man arrested.

She also learns about Monica's insecurities and advises her to accept who she is because being perfect is overrated.
