How To Be Really Bad 2018
Girl Has Powers So Strong Nothing Can Hurt Her, Not Even Fire.
She didn’t ask for powers, but now nothing can hurt her—not even fire. No cuts, no bruises, no pain. But when everyone realizes what she can survive, things take a dark turn.
In Hell, a girl named Lilith ties up her teacher and starts riling up people on the internet to fight each other. Despite being tied up to a chair, with his mouth also sealed, Lilith’s teacher tries to get her to free him, but she just turns up the music in her room. Her dad, the Devil, hears the loud music in Hell and wonders what’s going on.
As he gets to Lilith’s room, he angrily turns off the music before asking her why she tied up her teacher. Lilith looks surprised to see her dad, but she mentions that her teacher didn’t want her to take a break. As she says that he talks too much, the Devil mentions that her teacher is just doing his job.
The Devil then frees the teacher, who doesn’t look happy about what Lilith did. As the Devil asks where he stopped his lessons with Lilith, the teacher says they were just covering the seven deadly sins. The Devil then turns to Lilith and asks how to use Envy on humans. Lilith says it can be done easily with material goods. She then explains how she can make a dress look enticing to a group of girls, so they’ll feel the urge to steal it.
The Devil looks impressed with her answer, but he asks Lilith what she can’t do. Lilith says she can’t use magic, and that she can only try to tempt the humans because the ultimate choice to become evil has to be made by them. The Devil likes her answer, and Lilith says she’s already good enough to be sent to the human world. The Devil thinks she’s not ready, and he tells the teacher that he can leave the room. The teacher asks if he can leave forever, but the Devil gets pissed and mentions that he either has to teach Lilith or dust files in the cellar
The teacher says he would rather dust the files, and he leaves the room. Lilith asks if she can also go to Earth, but the Devil says she can’t. He adds that he’ll get her a stricter teacher so she can remain in hell. Lilith sounds pissed and says that she doesn’t need a teacher. As she says she’s tired of only being evil online, the Devil mentions that she’s just not ready to work for him in the human world.
Lilith looks sad to hear this, and the Devil leaves her room. Later that night, Lilith goes to meet her dad to convince him to send her to Earth on probation for a year. The Devil isn’t happy that she disturbed his sleep, but he eventually agrees to place her on probation for just one week. He adds that he’ll tell her where to go and which person she has to tempt to be evil. Lilith finds it surprising that he wants her to tempt only one person, and she says it will be an easy task.
The Devil then says that he’ll let Lilith stay in the human world if she successfully completes her mission. He adds that if she fails, she’ll come back to hell and work in the cellar forever. After thinking about it for a while, Lilith accepts her dad’s deal because she wants to prove him wrong.
The next day, as they leave hell, Lilith checks her file and sees that her target is a girl named Greta Birnstein. It also turns out that Greta’s family are already expecting Lilith because they think she’s coming to live with them so she can check out the school in their area. The Devil asks if she remembers the rules of engagement, and Lilith says she knows that there’s no room for physical contact or compassion.
The Devil then gives Lilith a magical ball, which he says can measure the temperature of her emotions. He adds that it always has to be black, but that if she’s not cold-blooded, the ball will change its color. Lilith then asks where they’re going and if it’s a penthouse, but her dad doesn’t say anything. After a while, they reach a local town and stop in front of an old house where Greta and her family live. Lilith looks shocked because she was expecting something better, but her dad tells her to leave the car already.
As she gets down and walks toward the house, Greta sees her and immediately comes over to welcome her. Greta tries to hug Lilith, but she steps back and says that she has a cold. Greta’s mom, Sibylle, doesn’t seem to care about this, and she just heads straight to hug Lilith.
She then mentions that her husband, Gabriel, grows the best fruits in the town, and that Lilith will get better when she tries them. Sibylle also tells Lilith to call her mom or just by her name, but she sounds disgusted by this. As Sibylle looks confused, Lilith quickly pretends to be nice and says that she’ll call her Mrs Birnstein.
Just then, the Devil calls Lilith and warns her about avoiding physical contact. Lilith asks why he can’t just send her to a normal family because Greta and Sibylle already seem disgustingly nice. The Devil doesn’t seem to care, and he says he’ll be expecting results from her in a week.
After he leaves, Greta and Sibylle wonder why he didn’t even greet them, but Lilith says that her dad is shy. Following this, she enters the house and meets Gabriel and Greta’s other siblings. The family seems to be a very happy one, and as they eat together, Lilith wonders why they’re so nice. After everyone leaves the table, Greta packs the plates, but Lilith takes them from her and intentionally drops them on the floor. Greta is shocked by this, and as Lilith says it’s her fault, she doesn’t argue about it.
As Sibylle then comes to the living room to see what happened, Greta takes the blame for the broken plates and mentions that she was just clumsy. Sibylle doesn’t have a problem with this, and she just tells Greta to leave the plates so she can come and clean them. Gabriel also tells Greta not to worry about it because broken plates bring good luck.
Lilith looks shocked by how they’re reacting to the broken plates, but Greta doesn’t understand why she’s trying to be mean. Shortly after, Lilith gets to Greta’s room and asks if she’s always so calm. Greta says that her dad always tells her that it’s better to smile and be quiet if she doesn’t have anything nice to say. Lilith cannot believe this, and she asks if Greta has friends. Greta says she doesn’t, and Lilith realizes that it’s because no one likes her.
Lilith then asks what Greta does for fun, and she says that she enjoys reading, singing in the church choir, and helping her mom around the house. Lilith looks shocked and cannot believe that her dad really made Greta her target. She then tries to make Greta envious of a fine dress she picks up from her bag.
As Lilith says that Greta will never be able to afford it, she says she knows. Lilith also mentions that she knows Greta is envious, but she says she’s not. Lilith cannot believe that her strategy to use envy didn’t work, and as Greta leaves the room, she checks her wardrobe.
Lilith then sees the pictures of a boy named Carlo hidden behind Greta’s clothes. As Greta returns to the room, Lilith asks if she has a boyfriend, but she says she doesn’t. The next day, as they’re about to leave for school, Lilith complains about Greta’s knitted gown, but she says that her mom made it for her.
Lilith then says she can’t take a bicycle to school, and that she prefers to call a taxi. Greta says they can only take the school bus as an alternative, but that she doesn’t like it because it stresses her. Lilith doesn’t seem to care, and they head to the bus stop together.
When they enter the bus, Greta greets two girls, Melody and Daria, but they insult her and tell her to leave them alone. As Greta sits down with Lilith, she mentions that Daria and Melody have a band and are good singers. Just then, a boy named Eddie enters the bus and starts bullying some other students. Greta looks scared, but Lilith likes Eddie because of his evil ways. Almost immediately, Eddie insults Greta and puts a piece of chewing gum on her hair.
Lilith likes this, and as Eddie asks who she is, she says she’s a fan of what he’s doing. Eddie thinks she’s just making fun of him, and he tells Greta to warn Lilith not to mess with him. Greta does just this, but Lilith doesn’t seem to care. She then collects Melody’s perfume bottle and pours the contents into her mouth before spitting it out on a lighter, which burns a part of Eddie’s hair. Everyone is shocked by this, and Eddie also heads to his seat with his friends.
When they get to school, Greta tells Lilith that she should’ve left Eddie alone. Lilith asks if she wasn’t happy that the bully got a taste of his medicine, but Greta says she was scared for Lilith. Just then, they see the school principal, Papenhoff, telling a student named Samuel to get down from the roof or get expelled. Greta then tells Lilith about Samuel and mentions that he always does weird things. Lilith says she likes him, and Samuel eventually gets down from the roof before Papenhoff overreacts.
Shortly after, while they’re in class, the teacher gives them a test, but Samuel just plays with the test sheet and walks out because he’s uninterested in anything related to school. As Lilith sees the test questions, she brings out her tab and tells Greta that she already has the answers. Greta looks shocked and tells her not to cheat, but Lilith doesn’t listen to her. After Lilith is done with her test, Greta notices that she copied the wrong answers. Before Lilith submits her sheet of paper, Greta takes it from her and puts it in her mouth.
The teacher is shocked by this, and Greta gets sent to the principal’s office. After the class, Lilith says she didn’t tell Greta to help her. Greta then asks why she’s so mean, but Lilith doesn’t get why she’s blaming her for what happened. Suddenly, they hear Papenhoff telling a teacher named Seidel that he wants his son’s string quartet to perform at the school’s festival in a few days. Interestingly, it turns out that Eddie is Papenhoff’s son, and Seidel says he doesn’t think it’s a good idea to let him perform.
Papenhoff insists that it’s what he wants, and he mentions that he’s already working on his speech for the festival, which will include some details of his trip to Africa. Seidel thinks Papenhoff used the school’s money for his personal trip, but he denies this. Shortly after, Seidel leaves the office, and Greta goes to meet Papenhoff to discover whether she’ll be punished for what she did earlier.
Shortly after, Greta meets Lilith outside and tells her that Papenhoff just warned her not to do something like that again. Just then, Lilith sees Carlo walking by and recognizes him as the boy whose pictures are in Greta’s wardrobe. Almost immediately, a girl approaches Carlo and insults him for breaking up with her.
Greta then tells Lilith that something like that happens frequently because Carlo likes girls. Lilith seems amazed by how much Carlo’s most recent ex-girlfriend hated him, and she asks if Greta would be just as pissed, given that she has a huge crush on him. Greta says that Carlo doesn’t even talk to her, and this gives Lilith an idea.
After Greta walks away, Lilith goes to meet Carlo to propose a deal. She then offers to pay him if he can talk to Greta and ask her out before breaking up with her in a few days. Carlo agrees to do this, and Lilith says he’ll get paid in full when he completes the job.
As Carlo then goes to meet Greta, Lilith sees Samuel staring at her before he walks away. Lilith follows him and sees him standing alone in a corner. She then asks if he’s the class clown, but he laughs and asks if he looks like one. Almost immediately, Eddie shows up with his friends and accuses Samuel of stealing his Rolex. Samuel denies this, but as Eddie sends his friends after him, he climbs the roof of a nearby building and shows them that he has the watch.
Lilith finds this funny, but Eddie gets pissed. He then sends his friends to take her down, but Lilith beats them up. Eddie is shocked by this, but before Lilith heads toward him, he runs away. Samuel then tosses the watch to a random stranger and asks Lilith if she’s hungry. They eventually get something to eat, and Lilith asks what they do for fun in the town.
Samuel says they buy a train ticket to the next city, and that he’s also leaving soon. Lilith asks where he’s going, and he says he’s heading to Berlin. Lilith asks if he really wants to drop out of school, and he says it’s what he wants. She then asks why he hasn’t gone yet, and he says he still needs to save some money. Lilith doesn’t get why he gave away the Rolex when he needed money, but Samuel says he only stole the watch to get on Eddie’s nerves.
He then mentions that there’s a sea nearby, and Lilith looks shocked because she has never seen one. As she seems interested in seeing it, Samuel says they can check it out from the top of a nearby church. Lilith doesn’t feel comfortable about going into a church, but Samuel says they don’t have to pray.
Lilith seems really interested in seeing the sea, so she follows him. As they get there, she gets very uncomfortable, and Samuel notices that something is wrong with her, but she pretends to be fine. After they get to the top, Lilith admires the sea, and Samuel seems attracted to her.
As he tries to express his feelings, Lilith looks shocked and runs away. When Lilith gets home, Greta asks what happened, but she doesn’t fully reveal what Samuel did. As Greta asks if she’s in love, Lilith laughs this off because she believes it can’t happen.
Shortly after, Lilith gets a call from her dad, who asks how things are going. She says she’s progressing well with the mission, but the Devil believes that Greta is a hard nut to crack. Before Lilith says anything else, she hears her dad telling his assistant to get rid of one of their operatives, who just fell in love.
Lilith looks scared, and as the call ends, she thinks about what could become of her if she falls in love with Samuel. She eventually heads to the living room and sees Sibylle knitting. As she asks what’s so special about it, Sibylle offers to teach Lilith how to knit during her regular mother-daughter knitting session the next day.
Lilith then reveals that Greta has a date with Carlo the next day. Sibylle and Gabriel are shocked by this, and as they talk about how Greta is growing older, she gets overwhelmed and heads outside. Lilith goes to meet her, and Greta says she shouldn’t have brought it up in that manner. Lilith doesn’t think it changes anything, and she offers to give Greta a makeover for her date. Greta looks great in Lilith’s dress but says she can’t wear it to school because her mom wouldn’t approve.
Lilith tells her to take a stand because she’s no longer a baby, and Greta agrees to do this because Carlo likes girls who wear fancy clothes. Shortly after, Samuel knocks on the window and tells Greta that he wants to see Lilith. Lilith looks shocked and pretends to be asleep, but Greta tells her to go out to see Samuel.
When she meets him on the roof, she doesn’t seem interested in talking to him because she’s scared she might fall in love with him. As Samuel then apologizes for what happened earlier, Lilith leaves him on the roof and returns to the room even though he keeps complimenting her looks. Later that night, Lilith checks the magical ball and realizes that it’s turning red.
Lilith looks scared by this, and she starts telling herself that she’s not in love with anyone. The next morning, Lilith gets Greta to wear her dress just as planned. Sibylle looks shocked to see Greta wearing the dress, and she says it’s not allowed in the house. Lilith then asks why Sibylle won’t let Greta wear what she wants. Sibylle says it’s against their house rules, and that Lilith also has to start wearing her knitted gowns if she doesn’t want to be sent back home.
Since Lilith can’t go back without completing her mission, she’s forced to wear one of Sibylle’s gowns to school. At the bus stop, Daria and Melody make fun of them, and Lilith tells Greta to insult them back. Greta cannot bring herself to do this, and as Lilith scolds her, Eddie shows up behind her and tries to burn her hair.
Interestingly, nothing happens to Lilith’s hair, and she hits his face. Shortly after, Lilith enters the school bus with Greta, but she still seems pissed about wearing the knitted gown. Greta says sorry for this and asks if there’s anything special about the fancy clothes she wears.
Lilith says it makes people want to be friends with her, and Greta says she might never know how it feels to wear one. Lilith then comes up with an idea and says that she’ll make Greta know what it feels like to wear a trendy design. As they get to school, Lilith walks behind Daria and Melody and starts talking about Sibylle’s gowns and how they were a hit at the recent New York Fashion Week.
Greta looks confused, but Lilith mentions that the biggest celebrities are now wearing Sibylle’s gowns. Daria and Melody believe she’s lying, but Lilith insists that she wouldn’t be wearing the gown if it wasn’t trendy. As she walks away from them, Greta asks why she lied, but Lilith just tells her to play along.
She also tells Greta to pose for some pictures, and as she does this, Carlo sees her and admires her. Greta looks happy about this, and she poses well for more pictures. After a while, Lilith meets Daria and Melody to show them a fake article about Sibylle’s gowns.
Daria and Melody look amazed by this, but Lilith tells them that the gowns are no longer on sale. Daria asks if Lilith can pull some strings for them, but she says that Greta is the only one who might be able to help them get one. When she asks who will take the dress, the girls start arguing over who deserves it more, and Lilith walks away.
Shortly after, Papenhoff summons Lilith to his office to ask about what she did to his son. Lilith takes responsibility for the cut on Eddie’s face, but she says she doesn’t regret hitting him. Papenhoff then tells Seidel to deal with her, but as they leave the office, the teacher only gives Lilith a chocolate bar because he supports what she did.
Almost immediately, they hear a fire alarm in the school and head out. Interestingly, it turns out that Samuel was the one who turned on the alarm, and he tells Lilith that he did it because he wanted to see her. Lilith still doesn’t want to hang out with him, but as he suggests going to the beach, she agrees.
Meanwhile, Daria and Melody meet Greta to ask if they can get gowns from her mom. Greta is surprised by this, and she says she’ll do her best. Before Lilith leaves for the beach, she sees Greta smiling and asks what’s going on. Greta then points out that this is the first time Daria and Melody have been nice to her. Lilith asks how it feels, and Greta says she feels great.
Lilith then asks about her date, and Greta says it’s supposed to be after Carlo’s rehearsal with Daria and Melody. Before Lilith leaves, she gives Greta her bag of makeup so she can look nice for her date. Following this, Lilith heads to the beach with Samuel.
She spends quality time with him and slowly accepts that she has fallen for him. While they’re together, her dad sends her a text to ask what she’s up to, but she ignores it. After a while, they leave the beach together, and Lilith starts having second thoughts about falling for Samuel because she’s scared of how her dad might react.
She then runs away and leaves him in the middle of the market. Coincidentally, she stops near Gabriel’s shop, and when he sees her, he asks her to help clear his stand so they can go home together. Elsewhere, Greta waits for Carlo while he handles the sound for Daria and Melody during their rehearsal.
After hearing them sing, Greta suggests that Daria lower her voice during their performance. Carlo likes this idea, and even though the girls aren’t sure about it, he insists that they try it. He also allows Greta to sing with them because she has a nice voice. After a while, Seidel interrupts their rehearsal and mentions that Papenhoff doesn’t want them to perform at the school festival. Daria and Melody can’t believe this, but Seidel says it was Papenhoff’s decision.
Shortly after, Carlo leaves school with Greta and brings up the idea of her joining Daria and Melody’s band. Greta doesn’t think the girls would want that, but Carlo says they’re professionals who will choose what’s best for their band. Coincidentally, Gabriel drives past them just as Carlo is about to express his feelings for Greta. Gabriel then goes back and unintentionally interrupts them. Greta is unhappy about this, but she enters her dad’s car and heads home with him and Lilith.
When they get home, Greta heads to her room without greeting Sibylle, who wonders what’s going on. Lilith says she’ll handle it, and Gabriel mentions that he unknowingly interrupted Greta’s date. Meanwhile, Greta tells Lilith that she feels things are moving too fast with Carlo.
She adds that she’s afraid he might not like her back even though she loves him, but Lilith assures her that he does. Greta then thanks Lilith for always encouraging her whenever she wants to give up. Lilith says it’s nothing, and as Greta checks her makeup bag, she sees the magical ball.
As it turns red, Lilith immediately mentions that it’s a thermometer, and Greta finds it surprising. Much later, Greta mentions that she can’t wait for Lilith to move to the town so they can spend more time together. Lilith says she’s not sure she’ll move there because her dad doesn’t want that. Greta asks why, and Lilith says that her dad believes she’s becoming too nice.
Greta looks confused, but Lilith explains that she had a bet with her dad that he would let her stay if she did evil things. Greta cannot believe this, and she wonders what kind of dad Lilith has. As Lilith says she could leave in a few days, Greta mentions that she still has time to be evil.
Lilith looks shocked to hear this, but Greta says she doesn’t want her new best friend to go. Greta then asks if Lilith has any new ideas, but she says she already has something evil planned. Greta looks happy and says that she hopes it works out. The next day at school, Greta gets new gowns for Daria and Melody, and they look happy about this. Lilith then sees Greta and Carlo talking about how their date got interrupted.
As she remembers what Greta told her the previous day, Lilith drags Carlo away from her and tells him that their deal is off. Carlo says he actually likes Greta, and he returns the half payment Lilith gave him earlier. He then goes to meet Greta to tell her what he initially planned with Lilith.
Greta looks disappointed and confronts Lilith about it, but she says she was only trying to be evil. Greta tells her to go to Hell, and Lilith looks disappointed as she walks away. Almost immediately, Samuel sends Lilith a text telling her to come to the beach.
Lilith heads there immediately, but when Samuel throws his train ticket away, saying he wants to stay in the town because of her, she feels sad. She then tells Samuel that meeting him is the worst thing that has ever happened to her because he makes her feel weak and useless. Samuel is shocked to hear this, but Lilith just leaves him alone at the beach.
She then heads back to school and meets Greta inside the bus. Greta still doesn’t want to talk to her, but Lilith mentions that she just broke up with Samuel even though it’s not what she really wants. Greta then asks why she did it, and Lilith shows her the magical ball and mentions that it’s not a thermometer.
She says it measures the temperature of her emotions, and that it’s supposed to remain black to show that she’s evil. She adds that Samuel made her vulnerable, and that the ball has been red since she fell for him. Greta then tells Lilith that she might have to accept that she’s not evil. Lilith says she has to be evil because of her probation, and Greta asks if she can help her. Lilith thinks Greta is too nice to help her, but she still hugs her.
The next day, Gabriel and Sibylle bring the kids to the school’s annual festival. Eddie sees Daria and Melody and makes fun of them for missing out on performing at the festival. Greta then asks the girls if they’re really going to do what they planned.
The girls mention that they can’t wait to watch Eddie’s performance, and Carlo also shows up to tell Greta that he has already made some photos that Papenhoff won’t like. Shortly after, Daria and Melody enter the dressing room of Eddie’s quartet and spray some itching powder on their clothes. Much later, the Devil arrives at the festival, and Lilith sits next to him.
He then asks Lilith if she has made Greta a bad girl, but she doesn’t know what to say. Shortly after, the event begins, and Papenhoff shows the guests a presentation on his trip to Africa. Interestingly, it turns out that his pictures have been edited to look funny.
Everyone laughs at him, but he quickly tells Carlo to turn off the projector. He then calls on Eddie’s quartet to entertain the guests. As they start playing their violins, their bodies start itching, and they’re forced to leave the stage. Suddenly, Daria, Melody, and Greta show up on stage to perform their song. Sibylle looks shocked to see them wearing her gowns, and the Devil also can’t believe that Greta is now part of a band.
Papenhoff tries to stop them, but when they don’t listen to him, he turns to Seidel and blames him for letting the girls perform. As he fires Seidel, the teacher tells him to wait until an investigation into his misappropriation of the school’s funds is complete. Papenhoff sounds shocked to hear this, and as he tries to fight Seidel, the teacher knocks him down.
After the girls are done with their performance, Greta takes a moment to thank Lilith for always supporting her. The devil looks shocked by this, and he tells Lilith to follow him outside. As they leave the hall, Lilith tries to explain what happened, but her dad says he’s proud of her for making Greta a bad girl. Lilith looks shocked, but her dad shows her that he already printed a card to confirm her appointment as a full-time operative on Earth.
Before he gives it to her, he tells her to show him the magical ball, and Lilith looks disappointed because she knows it’s still red. However, as she brings it out of her purse, it happens to be black again, and her dad confirms that she’s really evil. He then asks where she would like to be posted, and Lilith says she prefers to stay in the town.
The Devil finds it surprising, but he agrees to let her stay. After he leaves, Lilith tells Greta that her dad has agreed to let her stay. Greta looks happy about this, and as Lilith asks what happened to the ball, she says she painted it with nail polish.
Lilith looks pleased that Greta did something like that for her, and she mentions that she has to find Samuel. As she leaves the school, she asks some men in the area for Samuel’s whereabouts, and they mention that he has gone to the train station. Lilith immediately heads over there, and luckily, she sees him still waiting for his train.
She then apologizes for what she said the other day. She adds that she doesn’t want him to leave, and as he asks why, she says she has fallen in love with him. Samuel looks happy to hear this, and he brings out his ticket to burn it. As his lighter fails to work, Lilith burns it for him, and he looks shocked.
After convincing her dad to send her to the human world for a real evil mission, Lilith ends up stuck with Greta, who is incredibly nice. Despite Lilith’s attempts to make Greta do evil things, she remains kind and becomes friends with Lilith. Greta eventually learns about Lilith’s deal with her dad, and she decides to deliberately do evil things to convince the Devil that his daughter has the potential to work for him. Interestingly, Greta’s kindness, rather than Lilith’s attempts to corrupt her, was ultimately what helped Lilith fulfill her deal with the Devil. In this story, we learn that kindness has far more power than cruelty.
